MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said he believed the goal could be achieved quicker with involvement of the non-profit organisation in grooming the youths.

He said Chinese associations had always been the bridge connecting the people and the government.

“Huazong can extend its role to the associations of young people, even to the political field, to help build a more dynamic Chinese community,” he said at a fundraiser for Huazong in Bandar Sunway recently.

Liow said human capital development, coupled with good values, was an important element for the country to progress.

He added that Malaysia’s economic situation was moving in a positive direction as a result of the cooperation between the government and the people.

“The Government recognises Huazong’s role in reflecting issues faced by the people and their needs to the government,” he added.

Liow, who is also Health Minister, said he hoped Huazong would be involved in the ministry’s programme to promote healthy lifestyles.

Earlier, Huazong president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah said the federation had collected RM33.59mil from the public to build a new building.

The 12-storey building costing RM40mil with various facilities would be built on 1.4ha of land in Serdang.
