Huazong President Tan Sri Goh said that as the country celebrates its 67th National Day, looking back on the nation-building process, nothing has come easily—from breaking free from foreign colonial rule to gaining independence and then to the formation of a complete Malaysia. Ultimately, the most indispensable element has been the unity and concerted effort of all citizens.
He expressed gratitude for the insight and vision of the early leaders from all ethnic groups who united to undertake this monumental national endeavor. Furthermore, they ensured the enduring legacy of the "spirit of independence" and "spirit of nation-building," which includes the Chinese community and Chinese associations. It is essential to uphold and promote this spirit of unity, expanding the unity within the Chinese community to encompass the entire nation and all citizens.
Tan Sri Goh stated that, as members of the public and the Chinese community, he hopes the Malaysian government will continue to strengthen close ties with China. Recently, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid visited China in May, followed by Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s visit to Malaysia in June. He hopes that the top leaders of both countries will continue to make reciprocal visits or meet in international settings for further exchanges.
He also expressed his hope that Chinese President Xi Jinping will, with active coordination between the governments of Malaysia and China, make a second visit to Malaysia in his capacity as President. After all, it has been 11 years since his historic first visit in 2013.
